BoldVoice alternatives

We make Charisma Lab, one of the five alternatives below. It doesn't teach an accent, so for accent work we point you to the apps that do. If BoldVoice already gives you what you need, keep it.

Short answer

Pick by what you want to work on.

What BoldVoice does and what it costs

BoldVoice is an accent training app for people who speak English as a second language. You watch video lessons from accent coaches who have trained Hollywood actors. Then you record yourself and get AI feedback on each sound, plus your word stress and intonation. Its FAQ says the coaches teach the standard American accent. A speech assessment at the start sets up your training plan. The Super plan adds AI Chat, with more than 100 roleplay scenarios. You can also book a one-on-one class with a coach.

The app is free to download. Its App Store listing says that without a subscription you get only the first lesson, and the FAQ says your first 7 days are free. On the US App Store, its Premium plans run from $14.99 to $199.99, and 12 month Premium is $149.99. The FAQ puts the Standard yearly plan at $150 and the Super yearly plan at $200, with monthly plans from $25. Apple lists it for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision. BoldVoice's website links to an Android app and a web sign-up. App Store listing

Five alternatives to BoldVoice

ELSA Speak

WHAT YOU DO Speak English out loud and get AI feedback on your pronunciation and word stress. You pick the accent you learn: American, British, Australian and more. ELSA also has AI roleplays, an interview coach, grammar and vocabulary practice, and prep for exams like IELTS and TOEFL.

NEXT TO BOLDVOICE Both give you AI feedback on your pronunciation as you speak, and both have AI roleplays. ELSA also has a grammar coach, and it lets you learn British or Australian English as well as American.

PICK IT IF you want pronunciation and grammar in one app, or an accent other than American.

BEFORE YOU PAY Free to download, and ELSA's website says you can start for free and upgrade later. ELSA's App Store listing offers a 7-day trial of Premium. On the US App Store, the monthly plan is $19.99, three months cost $39.99 to $58 and yearly plans run from $71 to $129.99. Apple lists it for iPhone, iPad and Apple Vision, and it's on Google Play too. App Store listing

Accent Training

WHAT YOU DO Start with the melody of American English: stress, rhythm, intonation and how words connect. Then move on to sounds like the American T, L and R, and TH. You record yourself and get color-coded feedback word by word, while a pitch display shows whether your intonation matches. There are listening drills with minimal pairs and an AI tutor for conversation practice.

NEXT TO BOLDVOICE Both teach American English and give you feedback on each word you record. Accent Training's lessons take 3 to 5 minutes and start with intonation before sounds.

PICK IT IF you want American intonation and sounds for less money.

BEFORE YOU PAY Free to download, and its listing says you can start your first lesson today. On the US App Store, Plus is $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year, and removing ads is a separate $4.99 purchase. Apple lists it for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision. App Store listing

Speechling

WHAT YOU DO Listen to a native speaker say a sentence, then record yourself saying it. A human coach sends you feedback within 24 hours. Speechling's website says its coaches correct pronunciation, intonation, rhythm, grammar and word choice. Advanced learners can answer a question or describe an image instead of repeating a sentence.

NEXT TO BOLDVOICE Both have you record yourself and compare it with a native speaker. In the BoldVoice app, AI gives you feedback as you speak. At Speechling, a person does, within a day.

PICK IT IF you'd rather hear from a person than an AI, and you can wait a day for it.

BEFORE YOU PAY Speechling is a nonprofit. Its free plan includes up to 10 coaching sessions a month, but not for English. Unlimited coaching starts at $19.99 a month. You can record in a browser or the app. Apple lists the app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision, and Speechling's website says there's an Android app too. App Store listing · Speechling pricing

Vocal Image

WHAT YOU DO Follow a short plan each day that mixes an AI roleplay, voice training with instant voice analysis, breathing exercises, short videos and diction drills. In the roleplays, an AI plays someone like your manager or your partner and pushes back. Its library has full courses in American and British accent reduction and in English pronunciation, plus an accent test.

NEXT TO BOLDVOICE Both have accent courses and give you feedback on your voice. Vocal Image's daily plan also trains how you handle hard conversations.

PICK IT IF your accent is one part of what you want to work on, next to your voice and your conversations.

BEFORE YOU PAY It's free to download, and its listing says you can start a free trial. US plans run from $7.99 a week to $129.99 a year, with monthly plans at $12.99 and $19.99. Apple lists it for iPhone, iPad and Apple Vision, and its website says it's on Android and the web too. App Store listing · Vocal Image alternatives

Charisma Lab

WHAT YOU DO Talk out loud about the moment you're preparing for, then hear your recording played back. The AI coach tells you what to fix, like "drop your pitch on the last three words," and you say it again. Train splits delivery into 48 techniques across six skills. Voice Cam on the home screen shows your volume, pitch and pauses as you talk.

NEXT TO BOLDVOICE Both have you speak out loud and give you AI feedback. BoldVoice teaches the sounds of American English. Charisma Lab works on delivery: your pitch, pace, pauses and volume while you say it.

PICK IT IF people understand you, and you lose the room on how you say it: statements that rise like questions, a flat voice, sentences that trail off.

BEFORE YOU PAY Made for iPhone and iPad. Setup is free and includes a short live session with the coach. After that the app needs Pro, which is $14.99 a month in the US. We're new, so we only have 14 ratings. Pricing and canceling · App Store listing

Free alternatives to BoldVoice

Start with BoldVoice's own trial. Its FAQ says the first 7 days are free, and its listing says the app keeps its first lesson free without a subscription. ELSA Speak's website says you can start for free and upgrade later. Accent Training is free to download, and removing its ads costs $4.99. Speechling's free plan includes its curriculum and side-by-side comparisons of your voice and a native speaker's. Its free coaching doesn't cover English. YouGlish is a free website that plays the word or phrase you type in clips from YouTube videos, so you can hear how people say it. Charisma Lab isn't free after setup.

For free practice with no app, record yourself on your phone and play it back. How to record yourself practicing a speech covers what to listen for. If you want to be easier to understand without changing your accent, how to be more articulate covers the word endings that change what you mean.

Practice out loud with an AI coach in Charisma Lab

Charisma Lab is a speaking coach on your iPhone. In Speak, tap the center and tell the coach what you're preparing for, like a talk or an interview. Say it out loud one part at a time. A pause of about two seconds ends a take. You hear the take played back, then the coach tells you what to fix and sends you back in.

To see your delivery while you talk, open Voice Cam on the home screen and record, with the camera or audio only. Each recording runs up to a minute. It shows your volume, pitch and pauses, plus an estimate of your pace in words per minute. Setup is free and includes a short live session with the coach. After that, the app needs Pro, which is $14.99 a month in the US. See pricing.
