What Wellspoken does and what it costs
Wellspoken's website says it trains you to find the right words faster and organize your thoughts as you speak. Practice takes about five minutes a day. Its modes include mock interviews, meeting roleplays, impromptu speaking and conversation drills. Echo, its AI coach, runs mock interviews and roleplays. There are drills for filler words and frameworks like STAR, plus a vocabulary trainer. Each recording gets a Wellspoken Index score out of 1,000, built from structure, conciseness, confidence, pronunciation, filler rate and pace. On a Mac, its desktop app can record your Google Meet, Zoom and Teams calls and score how you spoke.
The app is free to download. Wellspoken's website says the free tier is permanent and includes three scored practice sessions a week. Full access needs a subscription. On the US App Store, plans run from $4.99 a week to $89.99 a year. The monthly plans are $12.99 and $17.99, and the yearly ones start at $34.99. The website puts Pro at roughly $70 to $110 a year, depending on plan and promotion. Apple lists the app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision. Five alternatives to Wellspoken
Charisma Lab
WHAT YOU DO Talk out loud about the moment you're preparing for, then hear your recording played back. The AI coach tells you what to fix, like "drop your pitch on the last three words," and you say it again. Train splits delivery into 48 techniques across six skills. Voice Cam on the home screen shows your volume, pitch and pauses as you talk.
NEXT TO WELLSPOKEN Both have you speak out loud and give you AI feedback. Wellspoken's website says most speech tools measure delivery, like pitch and pacing, while it works on finding your words. Charisma Lab works on delivery: how your voice sounds while you say it.
PICK IT IF you know what you want to say and lose the room on how you say it: statements that rise like questions, a flat voice, sentences that trail off.
BEFORE YOU PAY Made for iPhone and iPad. Setup is free and includes a short live session with the coach. After that the app needs Pro, which is $14.99 a month in the US. Wellspoken's monthly plans are $12.99 and $17.99. We have no yearly plan, so a year of Pro costs more than any of Wellspoken's yearly plans. We're new, so we only have 14 ratings. Its browser tools need no account: a filler-word counter and a speaking-rate checker. Speeko is free to download with some free exercises and tools, and its website says they need no account. Yoodli's Starter plan is free for 5 sessions. Speaker Coach in PowerPoint for the web is free with a Microsoft account, for rehearsing slides (Microsoft's guide). Charisma Lab isn't free after setup.
For free practice with no app, record yourself on your phone and play it back. How to record yourself practicing a speech covers what to listen for. Two of our guides cover what Wellspoken trains: how to be more articulate and how to stop rambling in interviews.
Practice out loud with an AI coach in Charisma Lab
Charisma Lab is a speaking coach on your iPhone. In Speak, tap the center and tell the coach what you're preparing for, like a talk or an interview. Say it out loud one part at a time. A pause of about two seconds ends a take. You hear the take played back, then the coach tells you what to fix and sends you back in.
To see your delivery while you talk, open Voice Cam on the home screen and record, with the camera or audio only. Each recording runs up to a minute. It shows your volume, pitch and pauses, plus an estimate of your pace in words per minute. Setup is free and includes a short live session with the coach. After that, the app needs Pro, which is $14.99 a month in the US. See pricing.
